Cheltenham Festival 2022 Guide

The biggest fixture in the jump racing calendar is not far away. The Cheltenham Festival pits the best horses against each other across four fantastic days at the iconic Cotswold venue.

There are 28 races in total with the very best jockeys and trainers from Britain and Ireland in action. Day one kicks off with four Grade 1 races, headlined by the Champion Hurdle, while Wednesday's action features the Champion Chase. The Stayers' Hurdle and Ryanair Chase take centre stage on Thursday before the Festival reaches its climax with the Cheltenham Gold Cup on the final day.

The Cheltenham Festival takes place at Cheltenham racecourse in Gloucestershire. This year, the Cheltenham Festival runs between Tuesday 15th and Friday 18th March, with seven races each day.

Last year the meeting was held behind closed doors due to Covid-19 restrictions, but usually more than 250,000 attend across the four days.

Pantheon Hospitality are delighted to be finally welcoming guests back into the corporate hospitality areas at the Cheltenham Festival for what is always one of the highlights of the sporting calendar.

Below are the main races for each day of the Festival and a miniguide for some horses to keep an eye on.

Day One: Tuesday 15th March

The Unibet Champion Hurdle (3.30) is the big race on the opening-day. Keep an eye on the unbeaten Honeysuckle. She is the defending champion having triumphed by six and a half lengths last season. Appreciate It, Sharjah and previous race winners Epatante and Buveur D'Air could cause an upset.

Day Two: Wednesday 16th March

Day two will hopefully showcase an eagerly anticipated rematch between Shishkin and Energuemene in the Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (3.30) after Shishkin beat his Irish rival in an epic Clarence House Chase in January.

Day Three: Thursday 17th March

Thursday’s feature race is the Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle (3.30), which looks like a wide-open race. Last year's winner Flooring Porter, Champ, Thyme Hill, Klassical Dream and 2019 hero Paisley Park could all be in with a shout.

Day Four: Friday 18th March

The Cheltenham Gold Cup (3.30) is the big-race highlight of the meeting and while it may not feature the blockbuster heavyweight contenders of previous years, it remains every bit as fascinating.

Minella Indo triumphed last season but has not won since, while the horse he beat in second, A Plus Tard, has made great strides having finished first and second in Grade 1 races since.
